Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a fiduciary & what does this mean?

Yes. Alexander Financial Planning (AFP) is a fiduciary, which means we’re legally and ethically obligated to act in our clients’ best interest. Our guidance is based on your goals, not commissions or incentives.

What services do you offer?

We take a holistic approach to orchestrating all facets of our clients’ financial lives. We provide four services. The first, Cash Flow Wealth Management, combines financial life planning and investment management. The second, Goal Driven Wealth Management, provides financial life planning and investment recommendations. The first is geared towards clients in or near retirement, and the second is tailored for younger clients still building their foundation. We also offer two stand-alone services: Financial Life Planning Only and Investment Management Only.

All services are customized to our clients’ unique goals, life stage, and priorities.

How are you compensated, & what does Flat Fee mean?

We operate on a fee-only and flat-fee model. This means we are compensated solely by our clients and do not receive commissions or third-party incentives. Additionally, for our combined services and our Financial Planning Only service, we use the flat-fee model, meaning we don’t charge a percentage fee based on how much you have in investment assets. Our flat fee is based on the time, resources, and the value we provide our clients through the planning work required. We believe it is unfair to charge a client a higher fee simply because they have more investable assets than another person. Our flat fee reflects our work and not our client’s net worth.

What sets AFP apart from other financial planners?

We’re a woman-owned, boutique, independent firm with decades of experience that has been built from the ground up. We specialize in Financial Life Planning, which means we are focused on helping our clients identify what an amazing life looks like to “them” and living “their” version of their best life story. The numbers matter—but they’re there to support your story, not define it.

Who is your ideal client?

Our best-fit clients are thoughtful about their future and value professional guidance. Many are within 15 years of retirement or already retired and ready to plan more intentionally. Their focus may have shifted from today to planning for tomorrow, and they understand that paying a percentage fee based on the amount of their investable assets is not fair. We also support clients navigating big transitions- career changes, retirement, loss, or divorce. We lean into change with our clients as we are trained to help traverse difficult periods in our clients’ lives.

What is your process, and how will we work together?

At AFP, it starts with us asking questions and moves into a casual yet informative meeting we call our Discovery meeting. Following this meeting, we’ll provide an understanding of what you envision your best life to look like, along with a fee quote. From there, we collaborate to create a plan that reflects your vision of a meaningful life. We’ll offer clear, actionable recommendations and walk beside you to implement them, staying in touch through ongoing reviews, emails, and calls.
